Students are expected to attend every lecture and a register of attendance will be taken in lectures on a random basis. Exercise ClassesExercise classes start on Tuesday 18th January 2005. All coursework questions are available on the web as Maple worksheets and/or PDF files; Courseworks 5 and 6 are available only as scanned PDF files and are identical to the courseworks at the ends of Chapters 5 and 6. The classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are supervised computing laboratories, whereas I will use the class on Mondays to discuss the coursework solutions. Coursework SubmissionI will collect and return coursework in the Monday exercise classes. The revised submission deadlines are as follows.
Text BooksThe Maple used in this course is based on Chapters 1–13 of Computing with Maple by Francis Wright [Chapman & Hall / CRC, 2001] (price about £25) which is the main recommended text book. It should be available from the College bookshop and the College Library should have two copies in the Short Loan Collection and two copies on One Week Loan. If you want to prepare for the course then I suggest you read this book. The numerical methods used are not based on any single text, but the following are among the books that I am using and may be useful for background:
